The term “family dynamics” refers to the ways in which family members interact. Children rely on the family for physical, mental, emotional, and financial support. It is one of the critical sources of relationship security or stress for children. A healthy family dynamic provides love, support, and care, whereas dysfunctional families have disputes, abusive behaviors, and ineffective conflict management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dysfunctional family relationships can have a variety of effects on a child. Effects of growing up in a dysfunctional family involve:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Extreme hostility, family conflicts, and criticism from dominating and disrespectful family members all contribute to low self-esteem in children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lack of empathy in children is a result of abusive behavior, rigid rules, and lack of empathy from family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Children are used as weapons by dysfunctional parents against each other. They are subjected to conditional love and support. The kids begin to accept this as normal. As a result, they unconsciously select emotionally abusive or unavailable friendships or relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In dysfunctional homes, children are not allowed to express their thoughts or share their emotions. Their feelings are never validated. As a result, they start looking for external validation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The children feel fear of abandonment or rejection since they have witnessed years of emotional, verbal, and physical abuse and a disrespectful family dynamic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
